BALTIMORE _ Orioles rookie Dylan Bundy had it all going his way for five innings Wednesday night. Then a couple of pitches got away and took some of the luster off his third major league start.
Bundy retired the first 16 batters he faced, but the Colorado Rockies figured him out in the sixth inning and took the deciding game of the three-game interleague series, 3-1, before 20,324 at Camden Yards.
The Orioles' young right-hander finally blinked with one out in sixth, walking former Oriole Mark Reynolds to end his perfect run before another former Oriole, catcher Nick Hundley, launched a long two-run home run to break a scoreless tie. Rookie David Dahl also homered in that inning to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead and knock Bundy out of the game.
Rockies starter Jon Gray also was overpowering. He allowed just a bunt single through the first three innings and worked out of jams in the fourth and fifth frames before Manny Machado's 21st home run of the season got the Orioles (58-42) on the scoreboard in the sixth.
The Orioles offense continues to struggle with runners in scoring position, an issue that is reflected in the fact that they have scored just 43 runs in their past 15 games _ an average of just 2.87 per game over that span.
They were hitless in six at-bats with runners in scoring position Wednesday night and 2-for-20 in RISP at-bats over the course of the three-game series.
The Orioles are scheduled to play a rain-makeup game against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night at Target Field. If that isn't inconvenient enough, there is a 50-percent chance of rain in the Minneapolis area.
