The Orioles' quest to erase the ignominy of striking out 52 times against the Houston Astros in a three-game series in May appears to know no limits. A night after smacking six home runs, the Orioles hit four in the first inning at Camden Yards on Friday before even recording their first out.
Center fielder Adam Jones matched his leadoff counterpart, Astros right fielder George Springer, by homering to left field to open the bottom of the first.
After a single by Hyun Soo Kim, third baseman Manny Machado snuck one over the 410-foot sign in center field to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead on his 28th home run of the season. One pitch later, first baseman Chris Davis swatted his 28th of the year, his third in as many at-bats dating to Thursday, and fourth in three games to extend that lead.
Major league home run leader Mark Trumbo got in on the fun with his 36th to make it 5-1. Each of Trumbo's past five hits have been home runs.
