After Germany's reunification, a watchmaking renaissance put Glashütte back on the map.
The name of the small Saxon town is embodied in Glashütte Original, to denote the origin of its timepieces.
The eponymous brand, along with neighbours such as A. Lange & Söhne, Moritz Grossmann and Nomos, have shown the world how German watchmaking is on par with leading Swiss brands.
Senator Cosmopolite.
Glashütte Original, now under the Swatch Group, produces understated timepieces featuring traditional design elements coupled with mechanical complexity, exemplified by new models under the Senator product line.
Senator Cosmopolite has been reinterpreted in a 44mm stainless steel case after the red- and white gold versions launched in 2015.
The minimalistic design places dark blue poire hands, blue Arabic numerals and indexes against a matte white dial, whose subdials at 6 and 12 o'clock are accentuated by silver threads.
Unlike other world-timers, the time zone mechanism displays the time of day or night at home and destination in each of the 35 world time zones currently in use, with windows at 8 o'clock indicating the destination.
Offering a power reserve of at least 72 hours, the movement with an off-centre rotor and decorative finishings are revealed through sapphire crystal case back.
Dials of Senator Excellence Panorama Date and Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase have been reworked in blue with a sunray pattern, silver-grey enhanced with a vertically-brushed finish, and lacquered white with a smooth matte surface.
The new faces are achieved through elaborate galvanisation and finishing process performed at the in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, southwestern Germany.
The 42mm stainless steel variations, like all other Senator Excellence models, bear a "Q" engraved on the case back. The Q guarantees the highest standards in stability, running time, precision and aesthetics, and testing over the course of 24 days under more demanding conditions than German chronometer certification testing.
