Original 'Star Wars' trilogy will be rereleased in theaters in a rare movie roadshow

April 13--"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" may have brought in a whole new generation of moviegoers to that galaxy far, far away, but the original trilogy still holds sway as the most popular parts of the series, and the Alamo Drafthouse plans to bring it back to the masses with its "Return of the Trilogy" roadshow program.

The original "Star Wars" trio -- "Episode IV -- A New Hope," "Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back," and "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" -- will be presented in their 1997 rerelease format on different days throughout the month of August. The Theatre at the Ace Hotel will host the Los Angeles screening of the films on Aug. 6. Tickets for most markets will go on sale at ReturnOfTheTrilogy.com on May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars Day: May the 4th Be With You.

"It's always been a dream to show the original "Star Wars" trilogy again -- somehow, someway," Alamo Drafthouse's vice president of special events, Henri Mazza, said in a statement. "Seeing the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time is a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun. When the films became available to book for screenings like these, we jumped at the chance to do something big."

The films will screen back-to-back-to-back, and the Drafthouse promises that individual locations will feature more than just the films. Special video content before and between films, contests and other surprises may be in store. Also, with Los Angeles being a cosplay-heavy area, patrons can probably expect a fair amount of cosplay at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel. So grab your Kylo Ren helmet and Admiral Ackbar mask.
