Katherine Rose: 'The first thing I saw when pulling up in the drive were two perfect white rabbits on a beautiful lawn and I was very pleased. While photographing Paul he did some impromptu magic tricks for me, then Debbie McGee popped her head round the door offering me a cup of tea. Tea and cake with Paul and Debbie was one of the more surreal moments of my life. It was all real though.'

After leaving the Royal College of Art he became an assistant to Lucian Freud in 1991 , and worked for Freud for twenty years during which time he ( along with his dog Eli ) was a frequent model for Freud's paintings. Antonio Olmos: 'I was very upset when I heard that the poet Seamus Heaney had died. I spent a day with him at his home in Dublin photographing him for the Observer Magazine in 2009. Heaney and his wife Marie were very kind to me, gave me as much time as I wanted and shared their lunch with me. Heaney was very down to earth and we spent more time in conversation than doing the photos. I only shot a few rolls of black-and-white 120mm film on my old Mamiya C330. It really was the last time I shot film seriously. Marie made Heaney get a haircut the day before the shoot so he would look presentable, which upset me because he had this wild riot of white hair like an Irish Afro that I really liked. Photographing and spending time with Seamus Heaney was one of the highlights of my photographic career. RIP Seamus Heaney.' Photograph: Antonio Olmos for the Observer
