- Lowrie originated the role of Dennis, the original "bad boy" of the ITV soap, in the first episode in 1960.
- He left the show in 1968 but returned in 2011, married Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) before being written out again in 2014.
- Fans say he “brought an incredible charm and charisma” to the soap and was “one of the best characters ever” on Coronation Street.
- The actor also had roles in West End productions and Victoria Wood comedies.
