Original cast Hamilton film will be available to stream on Disney+

How lucky we are to be alive right now: the filmed version of Hamilton is being made available to watch online.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash-hit musical will come to Disney+ from July 3, and it's just what we need to get us through these trying times.

It was originally scheduled to open in American cinemas from October 15 2021, but has been fast-tracked by more than a year.

A performance of the hit show was filmed in 2016 at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre with the entire original Broadway cast, including Miranda himself, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr and Anthony Ramos.

Disney acquired the rights to Hamilton for a reported sum of $75m, following a lengthy bidding war with other Hollywood studios.

Hamilton debuted on Broadway in 2015, winning 11 Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for drama, before transferring to the West End in December 2017 to universal acclaim.

It tells the story of United States founding father Alexander Hamilton, inspired by Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography, and traces his life through a groundbreaking rapped and sung-through production.
