Original Balamory stars to return to new island series after two decades

THE original stars of iconic children’s programme Balamory are set to return to television after two decades.

Originally produced between 2002 and 2005 starring characters such as Miss Hoolie, PC Plum and Josie Jump, the pastel-hued, fictional town of Balamory nestled around a charming harbour is set to return to screens.

Commissioned for two new series on CBeebies, families will be able to enjoy the home-grown storytelling about the much-loved nursery school, Balamory, from 2026.

Julie Wilson Nimmo will return as nursery teacher Miss Hoolie, Andrew Agnew as PC Plum, Kim Tserkezie as Penny Pocket and Juliet Cadzow as bus driver Edie McCredie.

Images of the cast were released by the BBC, holding a new script.

New characters have also been introduced, such as scientist and inventor Ava Potts, played by Danielle Jam, local vet Dr Ollie, played by Carl Spencer, and the harbour master, played by William Andrews.

Filming will take place in a studio in Glasgow and on location in Tobermory.

BBC children's commissioner Kate Morton said: "It's wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together.

"This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly."

It’s thought the two new series will be inspired by the original family favourite, with stories centred around a nursery school and their teacher.

There will be 10 episodes in each series.
