Organize Your Pockets With Keyport Pivot

Even in this time of smart locks, I still have to carry a jangling keychain everywhere I go. And there are things that I use on a regular basis through the day –like a pocket knife to open boxes, a thumb drive for ‘sneakernetting’ files between computers, and a flashlight– that also tend to collect in my pockets. I could really use a system that organizes all this stuff.

I often have a multi-tool with me that solves some of the problems, but it doesn’t deal with everything. There are still those keys to carry separately. And I always end up with more attachments than I need (I don’t often feel the need to file my nails or open a bottle of wine through the day). That means more bulk than needed.

How the Keyport Pivot works.

Enter the Keyport Pivot.

This handy device combines pretty much everything into a single, compact package that’s completely customizable. You can combine keys with a variety of Inserts and Modules to create your own version.

Keyport Pivot with keys and inserts including MOCA 10-in-1 multi-tool.

The case of the Pivot is durable aluminum, and offered in black, red, green or silver finish. It’s hinged on one end, with a screw at the other that can be removed with a coin (no need to search for a multi-tool to crack open the multi-tool). Remove that screw and you can easily slide keys and Inserts over a pin, then close it back up. You can open it at any time to add new inserts or keys, to change the order they’re in, or to remove something.

It’s easy to take the Pivot apart with a coin to make changes to your configuration.

Inserts are sold separately and include:

  • Pen with black ink
  • 8GB USB Flash drive
  • 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive
  • 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive
  • MOCA 10-in-1 multi-tool (TSA-friendly bottle opener, flathead screwdriver, box opener, 1/4-inch wrench, etc…)
  • Griffin stowaway tool
  • Scissors stowaway tool
Keyport Pivot and Keyport Slide with expansion modules.

If you need more room, Keyport sells expansion kits that let you add additional tools and/or keys.

In addition, there are are three slots on each side of the Keyport chassis. You can buy modules that securely snap into those slots, offering even more functionality. Modules currently available include:

  • Locator + LED light (works with TrackR)
  • Pocketknife
  • Mini flashlight

The modules are a great idea. I installed the mini flashlight and pocketknife on my review unit. It’s worth noting that the flashlight has user replaceable button batteries, so it’s not throwaway when you run it down.

The Keyport Pivot approach works really well. It does a great job of organizing keys, and keeping commonly needed tools and gadgets handy. It eliminates the noise all that stuff makes clanking around in your pockets, and you don’t have to worry about forgetting things –they’re all there, including your keys. While assembly was solid, it was easy to take apart, which is something I appreciated. I like having the pocketknife with me for dealing with big boxes, for example, but if I’m going out to a concert and worried about security, I can remove it in seconds before leaving.

The one thing Keyport doesn’t recommend is auto keys or keys with rounded heads. However, these can still be attached to the Pivot using an included D-Ring.

And if you want something just a little slicker, the company also offers the Keyport Slide. This is a fully enclosed holder that can also be customized to hold a variety of keys and tools. The difference is with the Slide, the accessories are mounted to spring-loaded sliders. You push a button and slide the key or tool out until it locks into place, then slide it back when finished.

Both the Pivot and Slide come with a free two-year subscription to KeyportID, the company’s online lost and found service.

Keyport Pivot offers compact, easy and functional organization of your keys.

If your pockets are a disorganized mess, Keyport Pivot offers a pretty attractive alternative, that starts at just $19.99 (inserts and add-on modules cost extra and range in price from $8.99 to $54.99, if you want a 64GB USB 3.0 Flash drive).

Disclosure: Keyport provided Pivot multi-tools for evaluation but had no input into this review.
