Organisers of Nottingham beach consider how it could go ahead

The organisers of Nottingham Beach are "working hard" to look at how the fun summer attraction could safely work if it is decided that the event can go ahead.

The annual seaside themed pop-up usually starts to take shape in Old Market Square in early July, with the arrival of tonnes of sand, ready for the school holidays.

Last year the beach was put on hold due to Covid but there was a scaled down event with food and drink stalls and children's fairground rides.

The next key date in the relaxing of coronavirus restrictions is July 19 - pushed back from June 21 due concerns over increasing cases of the Delta variant.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to be setting out in the next few days what step four of the roadmap out of lockdown will look like.

The Mellors Group, who put on the City-by-the-Sea, with the city council and Nottingham BID, said: "We are still working hard with Nottingham City Council to look at how we could welcome you all back safely to the Beach this summer if it is decided that the event can go ahead.

"Once further information from the Government about the easing of restrictions becomes clear, we will provide an update about the Beach 2021.

"Our main priority is making sure all our customers and staff stay safe, which requires detailed planning and coordination with local authorities.

"We hope to see you all again this summer in the Old Market Square."
