Organisers of first Castle Douglas Beer Festival hail event's success

The first Castle Douglas Beer Festival was a huge success.

Tickets for the town hall were sold out as people were keen to sample the offerings from the town’s Sulwath Brewery as well as four other brewers, a cider producer and the gin and Prosecco bar.

Non-drinkers and designated drivers were catered for too with soft drinks and tea and coffee on offer as well as food.

And in addition to the drink, there were performances from well-known Dumfries entertainers Haig McCulloch senior and junior as well as band Chasin’ the Train.

There was also a raffle with several local businesses donating prizes.

The festival was organised by Sulwath Brewery and owner Allen Henderson said it was extremely likely it would return.

He said: “It was a fantastic day, it was very well received. We’ve had so many positive comments and we’ve not had a negative one from anybody.

“I know that a number of other businesses in the town benefited too – not just pubs but chip shops, other food places and taxi companies as they were coming from Dumfries.”
