Organised crime gang rattled as two members arrested for series of thefts across five counties in huge Garda sting

An organised crime gang have been stung badly after two of their members were arrested by Gardai yesterday in relation to a series of thefts across five counties including Dublin.

Intelligence-led officers arrested the pair after the gang carried out a number of carefully planned thefts from retail premises in Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Meath and Kilkenny all in the space of the past six weeks.

The men were nabbed when Gardai carried out a search of a property in Kildare yesterday where they recovered a number of stolen items believed to have been snatched during these thefts.

The duo, one in his 20s and one in his 30s, were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Blackrock Garda Station.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí have arrested two men in relation to a number of thefts from retail premises by an organised crime gang that occurred in Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Meath and Kilkenny in July and August of this year.

"As part of an investigation into a number of thefts, Gardaí carried out a search of a property in Straffan, Co. Kildare yesterday, Monday 17 August 2020. A number of items believed to be stolen were recovered from this property."

He added: "Two males, one in his 20s and one in his 30s were arrested at the scene. Both men are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Blackrock Garda station."
