Organised crime crackdown nets almost $1m in cannabis

Almost $1 million worth of cannabis plants have been seized in a crackdown on organised drug trafficking.

Police have seized 393 plants, weighing more than 590 kilograms, with a combined street value of about $950,000 over a two-day operation on large-scale hydroponic set-ups.

Detectives raided a Bayswater industrial factory in Melbourne's east on Thursday, finding 282 mature plants.

The seizure comes after a warrant was executed days earlier in the adjoining suburb of Scoresby, netting 111 plants.

Detective Inspector Glen Cruse said the factories were linked and part of a wider, coordinated network operating across Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

"These crop houses are highly sophisticated and clearly set up to generate maximum profit for organised crime groups," he said.

"This is a significant seizure, and we'll continue to apply pressure."
