Oregon police share video of car flipping on its roof to warn drivers about importance of wearing seatbelts

This is the moment a driver survived after her car crashed with another vehicle and flipped on its roof in Oregon.

Police in Medford, Oregon urged drivers to wear their seatbelts after sharing on Facebook a video of a car flipping on its roof.

The video shows a SUV attempt to change lanes before colliding with another vehicle, launching the second car into the air.

“The driver of the vehicle that flipped over was wearing a seat belt and walked away with very little injury,” Medford Police said.

“Had she not been buckled up, she could have been seriously injured. Stay alert out there friends."

Detective Superintendent Andy Cox responded to the video on Twitter with UK figures highlighting the importance of wearing a seatbelts.

"Failure to wear a #Seatbelt remains a key challenge for #RoadSafety," he said.

"In #London last week alone we enforced 207 offences.

"Amazing when you consider around 200 die annually not wearing a seatbelt within the UK and safety tests show around 1/2 would be alive had they have done so."

Last year the Government considered plans to introduce more stringent regulations for drivers who don't wear seat belts.

Under current laws, motorists who do not strap in are handed a £100 on-the-spot fine and motorists can be disqualified from driving if they build up 12 or more points within three years.

Prince Philip was spoken to by police in January last year after being photographed driving without a seat belt.
