Order put in place by council to protect trees at Cleland Hospital site

North Lanarkshire Council has issued a protection notice for an area of woodland at Cleland Hospital.

A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) has been made in respect of trees situated on part of the hospital site in the village’s Bellside Road.

The TPO prevents anyone from cutting down, uprooting or wilfully damaging trees there, or permitting anyone else to do that.

TPOs are a method of protecting individual and groups of trees or larger areas of woodlands whose removal would have an adverse impact on the amenity of an area.

It prevents trees from being lopped or topped, or destroyed by any means, unless consent is acquired from the council’s planning authority.

The planning authority’s preservation order came into effect on May 20 and will remain in force for six months.

Among the different types of tree species within the defined area are, Scots Pine; Lime; Goat Willow; Beech; Cherry; Ash; Elm; Hawthorn; Silver Birch; and others.

Objections and representations with respect to the TPO may be emailed to ESNLLDP@northlan.gov.uk for the attention of Rosaleen Toal or sent to Rosaleen

Toal, Fleming House, 2 Tryst Road, Cumbernauld G67 1JW. They must arrive by close of business on July 24.

Any representation must be made in writing, state the grounds, and specifying the particular trees, groups of trees, or woodlands in respect of which it is made.

The planning authority must consider any representations made in accordance with this regulation before the Tree Preservation Order is confirmed.

A copy of the TPO and the map outlinig the area in question can be viewed online at northlanarkshire.gov.uk/tpo during the consultation period.

If you cannot access the documents online then you can call 01236 632500 and request a copy be sent by post.
