The Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Festival 2020, organized by The Yomiuri Shimbun, NHK and other entities, opened on Friday at Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. About 100,000 orchids of about 3,000 species from 18 countries and regions will be on display until Feb. 21.
One of the highlights is an exhibition in which oriental orchids and bonsai are lined up in a Japanese-style room that represents the world of Manyoshu, the nation's oldest poetry collection,
which became the basis of the name of the new Reiwa era. Collections of rare orchids and succulent plants with unique shapes are also on display.
The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., extended to 9 p.m on Feb. 14, 15 and 18 to 20.
