Orchestral works by five composers

Shinik Hahm. Mahidol University's College of Music

Maestro Shinik Hahm will conduct the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra during the 14th Thailand International Composition Festival (TICF) 2018 at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Saturday at 4pm.

The programme will feature orchestral works by five composers who have participated the festival as guests. They include Evening Prayer by Robert Beaser, Bass Clarinet Concerto Rocco E Rollo by Arthur Gottschalk, The Fantasia Of Peony Pavilion by Deqing Wen, the world premiere of Raging Fire by Narong Prangcharoen, and the world premiere of The Empires by Narongrit Dharmabutra.

Joining the TPO as guest soloist will be Rocco Parisi, one of Italy's most brilliant clarinet virtuoso. Recognised as a talent interpreter of contemporary music and as an innovator of new techniques for the bass clarinet, many original compositions have been dedicated to him. He won prizes at several international competitions and has appeared as soloist in Germany, Turkey, Portugal, China, France, Switzerland, Spain and the US.

Returning to provide voice for the TPO will be Sasinee Aswajesdakul who performed as Musetta from La Boheme and, most recently, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the University of Performing Arts, Vienna, Austria.

This is the first collaboration between Korean-Swiss Hahm and the TPO. He has established himself as one of the most dynamic and exciting conductors of all time and his vigorous guest-conducting appearances include engagements in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Tickets cost 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht (half prices for students) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456) and at PMH Box Office (call 062-526-6645 and 02-849-6565/6 ext 6603/4 and 6624).
