Orbit secures £45m funding from Barclays

Housing group Orbit has agreed a new £45 million funding deal with Barclays.

The Coventry-based company has secured a revolving credit facility to support its development of  affordable homes in the Midlands, East and South East.

The group manages a portfolio of 43,000 properties across local communities and aims to build a further 20,000 houses by 2030.

Chief finance officer Joy Baggaley said: "We're delighted to have secured this additional funding through Barclays.

"We believe in making profit for a purpose and this ethos allows us to continue to invest in the maintenance of our homes and the services we deliver.

"It will also allow us to play a significant role in driving UK housing growth through our development programme, 65 per cent of which will include the provision of much-needed affordable homes."

David Glover, Barclays' relationship director, added: "We have a strong and long-standing relationship with Orbit so for Barclays to support them in the evolution of their housing development strategy through additional funding makes good business sense.

"It also underlines our ongoing commitment to the social housing sector in the UK and to clients who continue to deliver much needed affordable housing."
