Oraon takes dig at Centre over fuel, lemon price hike

RANCHI: State finance minister Rameshwar Oraon on Thursday lashed out at the Centre over the spiralling rise in fuel prices, which he said triggered a chain of price hike across sectors.

Accusing the PM Narendra Modi-led government of poor fiscal management, he said the Centre has failed to reign in inflation. “The Union government doesn’t have any backup plan.”

He cited how the rise in prices has forced the common man to change the food habit. “The ‘aam aadmi’ can’t eat ‘bhujiya’ (fried sabji) and are adjusting with ‘choka’ (smashed potatoes) as they can’t afford mustard oil. The humble lemon, the source of vitamins for the poor during summer, is now out of bounds. ‘Modi sarkar nimbu ka daam tak nai sambhal sakti’ (Modi government can’t even control the price of lemons),” he mocked.

“There is an urgent need for a price correction. The onus lies with the Centre. Fuel prices are creating new daily records, forcing people, especially the poor and middle-class, to struggle to make their ends meet.”
