Orange Private Hospital enters administration amid 'uncertain times' for staff

A private hospital in the New South Wales central west has entered voluntary administration less than two years after opening.

The Orange Private Hospital employs 64 staff along with 32 surgeons, which operate out of the seven-theatre facility.

The hospital only opened in July 2021, as part of a $50 million major health precinct project led by developers Zauner Construction and James Richmark Pty Ltd.

Orange Specialist Clinic is a practice of medical specialists including surgeons located in the same building as Orange Private Hospital.

Its clinicians use the hospital's facilities.

Director of Orange Specialist Clinic Dr Rob Knox told the ABC administrators had assured the clinic that operations would continue as normal for the "foreseeable future".

Dr Knox said their doctors also remained committed to minimising disruptions to clinical care.

"We remain strongly supportive of having adequate capacity and capability in a private hospital complex and after hours GP clinic in close proximity to an overburdened public hospital operating suite and emergency department."

In a statement, administrator Ernst & Young said its "primary objective was to secure a longer-term future for the organisation".

"We understand these are uncertain times for employees, doctors and patients of the Orange Private Hospital," administrator David Kennedy said.

"We will be conducting an expression of interest campaign to achieve a recapitalisation or sale of the hospital."

Mr Kennedy said the company hoped to limit disturbance for patients.

"Our priorities are the continuation of services at the hospital and to ensure any disruption is minimised," he said.

"We are committed to having regular and clear communication with doctors, employees, patients and the local community."

The hospital occupies two levels of the Bloomfield Medical Centre opposite the main Orange public service.

The medical centre has five fully equipped theatres, specialises in surgical services and contains 23 private rooms.

Earlier this year, Bathurst hospital had four medical registrars taken off its roster, after the medical service lost its training accreditation.
