Orange Order walk to close 20 major Edinburgh roads amid Fringe and Oasis shows

A NUMBER of roads in Edinburgh’s city centre are set to close and bus diversions will be in place this weekend due to an Orange Walk amid Oasis's reunion shows and the Fringe Festival.

Around 20 central roads will be fully or partially closed to allow the procession, which is planned for Saturday between 11am and 3pm, to take place.

Lothian Buses has also advised travellers that 15 of its services will be diverted to allow for the march, which is organised by the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of Scotland, a Protestant Loyal Order.

Around 2000 people are expected to take part in the march, which will start at Middle Meadow Walk and will travel along Forrest Road, George IV Bridge, Bank Street, North Bank Street, Market Street, Jeffrey Street, Canongate, Abbeyhill, Abbeymount and on to Regent Road.

It comes at one of the busiest times of the year for Scotland’s capital, as thousands of visitors flock to the city for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Art Festival also running at the same time.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival will launch on Saturday, and Oasis will also be playing in the capital as part of their UK-wide reunion tour, where they will perform to around 67,000 fans at Murrayfield.

Oasis fans are expected to bring a £136.6 million cash injection to Edinburgh when visiting the city for the band's three shows this month.

Research from Novuna Personal Finance claims that the band’s three-night residency at Murrayfield Stadium this summer will be one of the biggest cultural and economic events Edinburgh has seen in years.

Oasis will play at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium for three gigs on Friday, August 8, Saturday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 12.
