Orange Order donates NHS badges' money to Air Ambulance

Money raised through the sale of Orange Order badges calling on people to ‘Stay Home - Protect the NHS’ has been donated to the Air Ambulance.

The institution’s Grand Master Edward Stevenson and Deputy Grand Master Harold Henning presented Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, or HEMS, personnel with a cheque for £15,000.

The Air Ambulance, based at The Maze, near Lisburn, is a charity. The Order says the money was raised “by the membership through the sale of Covid-19 badges and banners”.

While on the site, the senior members of the Order spoke to Air Ambulance staff to “learn a lot more about the vitally important service which helps save lives right across the province”.

The Grand Master said: “We were delighted to visit the Air Ambulance and present a cheque in support of this wonderful service.

“Nobody knows when they may find themselves in need of the services of the Air Ambulance, which has already saved many lives here in Northern Ireland.”

The Order says that throughout the pandemic they “have been working hard to support the NHS and keyworkers, looking after all members in their communities through a range of schemes, including providing hot meals and food packages, distributed items of PPE and supported a host of local charities”.
