Orange alert for rain, squall in Delhi today

NEW DELHI: Rain accompanied by squall at the speed of up to 60 kmph is likely on Monday with India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an ‘orange’ (be prepared) alert. The maximum temperature on Sunday dipped to 39.3 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, at Safdarjung which is the city’s base station.

According to IMD, the maximum temperature at most stations on Sunday was in the range of 39-40 degrees Celsius. Najafgarh recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature settled at 23.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

The relative humidity oscillated between 77% and 29%. However, a few parts of Delhi received overnight rain, as 0.8mm rainfall was recorded till 8.30am on Sunday at Safdarjung. Palam, Najafgarh and Lodhi Road recorded 2mm, 1mm and 0.9mm rainfall, respectively, till 8.30 am.

IMD has predicted light rain accompanied by squall at the speed of 50-60 kmph on Monday under the influence of a western disturbance.
