'Options' - Nottingham Forest target speaks out after signing for rivals

Morgan Fox has signed for Nottingham Forest's Championship rivals Stoke City after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

Fox was out-of-contract and linked with a number of clubs, including Forest and Derby County.

In the end, though, the 26-year-old left-back opted to join Stoke on a free transfer after turning down the offer of a new deal at Hillsborough.

The Potters said Fox was "much sought after" and the player confirmed other clubs were in for him.

“It’s just brilliant to be here, it’s a new beginning for me coming off the back of a good season personally and I’m ready to go again,” Fox told Stoke's official website.

“I had a couple of options coming up towards the end of last season but, for me, after meeting the gaffer (Michael O'Neill), this seems to the right place.

“It’s a good project that he’s starting here so I’m looking forward to it.

“Everyone can see that the last couple of years haven’t been as good as we would want it to be but since the gaffer has come in, there has been a big turnaround.

“You can see the amount of quality in the group, hopefully I can join that and get myself in there with them.

"They’re a good group of lads and I can’t wait to get started."

Boss O'Neill added: “Morgan is a player who knows the Championship really well and at the age of 26 he’s still hungry to improve and play at a higher level.

“Left-back is an area we have been looking to strengthen and Morgan with his defensive acumen, athleticism and delivery from set-plays will be a great asset for us.”

Fox made more than 100 appearances in three-and-a-half years at Wednesday, including 32 during the 2019-20 season.

He started his career with Charlton Athletic and had a loan spell with Notts County back in 2013-14.
