Optimistic property listing for a flat with no toilet and shower in the kitchen goes viral

For people looking to rent a home in the capital, it can sometimes feel as though you have to be earning millions to find somewhere comfortable.

So when a property in the affluent area of Notting Hill was listed on Gumtree for a shockingly low £185pw, the offer almost seemed too good to be true.

But that’s because it is, as the flat is seemingly missing one of the most important appliances in any home – it has no toilet.

The studio flat does come with a shower, albeit placed bizarrely next to the oven, but there is no toilet to be found in any of the images and no mention of a loo in the property description either.

Despite the glaring flaw, the optimistic listing describes the flat as “spacious” and “well equipped”.

The description reads: “Spacious double studio located on Clanricarde Gardens W2.

“The studio comes with wooden flooring, well-equipped kitchen area, pine furniture, comfy chairs and dining table, shower and mezzanine sleeping gallery.”

The kitchen comprises a small fridge, an oven with a stovetop, a sink, and a small countertop above the fridge.

A set of stairs will take the future tenants up to a mezzanine level where they’ll find a double mattress on the floor to sleep on, alongside a chest of drawers.

There’s a shower next to the kitchen, but as well as no toilet, there’s also minimal storage space and no washing facilities to clean clothes – meaning trips to the laundrette are a must.

But with all the flaws aside, there’s likely to still be plenty of buzz around the property as finding a home in London for such low rent is an increasingly impossible task.

The flat also has excellent transport links, as it’s close to major Tube stations including Notting Hill Gate, Bayswater and Queensway, as well as tourist hotspots Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
