Opticians organises food collection to help keep an eye on those facing winter hardship

As winter approaches, a Lanarkshire opticians is helping keep an eye on those who may be struggling to make ends meet by organising a food collection.

And Tuite Opticians in Wishaw is also offering anyone who makes a donation the opportunity to win a great prize.

Staff will be collecting food donations on behalf of Wishaw Community Foodbank, which operates from the nearby South Wishaw Parish Church on East Academy Street.

All those who donate will be entered into a raffle giving them the chance to win £50 to spend on eye-wear or lenses.

Practice manager Clare Tuite told Lanarkshire Live: “We’ve been doing it for a couple of years now. The last time we did it for Basics Food Bank.

"Wishaw Community Foodbank is a new one that has opened recently, and it’s located near to the practice. We’ve been a fixture in Wishaw for a long time and it’s good to be able to give back to the community.

Everyone who donates will be entered into a prize draw (UGC)

“We didn’t do a collection last year because of Covid but the year before we received loads of stuff from generous donors.

“It was really surprising the uptake the last time, and what people were willing to give. We were running out of space to keep it all in.

“Everyone who donates will receive a raffle ticket and the winner will get a £50 voucher to spend on anything in here. You don’t have to be coming in to the shop for anything, anyone can just come in and donate.”

The practice will be accepting donations up until Friday, December 3.

They can be dropped into: Tuite Opticians Wishaw, 74 Caledonian Rd, during opening hours, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5.30pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.
