An optical illusion has sparked controversy online after people were left divided over what numbers were hidden within the puzzle.
The hypnotic black and white image shows a striped circle containing condensing swirls inside.
However, it is not the circle itself that has caused debate, but rather what is contained inside the circle.
Specifically, what number is inside the circle.
Twitter user Benonwine asked online: "Do you see a number? If so, what number?" the Daily Record reports .

The tweet has since attracted a total of 5,240 replies and 1,410 likes on Twitter.
People gathered online to share what numbers they saw and how many different numbers they could make out.
Reactions varied on social media as some worried about their eye health and others contemplated how the illusion mirrored life.

One user replied: "45 283...and what's the catch? Should I book an appointment with my GP?"
"I can only see 528. Does that mean anything about my eyesight?" another person tweeted.
Another Twitter user theorised that the amount of numbers you can see depends on your contrast sensitivity.
Meanwhile, others used image editing tools to get to the bottom of the matter by clearing up the image.
The optical illusion even brought out philosophical thoughts.
