Optical illusion sparks furious debate as people divided over hidden numbers inside

An optical illusion has sparked debate online and left people divided over the hidden numbers within the puzzle.

The hypnotic image is a circle containing condensing black swirls inside, but what has really gotten people talking is confusion over what is inside the circle.

Specifically, what number lay inside the circle.

Twitter user Benonwine asking online: “Do you see a number? If so, what number?” the Daily Record reports.

The tweet has attracted a total of 5,240 replies and 1,410 likes on Twitter.

People gathered online to share what numbers they saw, and the number of different numbers they saw.

Reactions varied on social media as some worried about their eye health and others contemplated how the illusion mirrored life.

One user replied: "45 283...and what's the catch? Should I book an appointment with my GP?"

"I can only see 528. Does that mean anything about my eyesight?" another person tweeted.

A Twitter user theorised that the number of numbers you can see depends on your contrast sensitivity.

Meanwhile, others busted out image editing tools to get to the bottom of the matter by clearing up the image.

The optical illusion even brought out philosophical thoughts.
