Optical illusion seems to show 'huge crowd at a concert' - and people can't unsee it

Even if you've never been to one, we all know exactly what a concert looks like - thousands of people standing in a crowd, bright lights, the stage that looks tiny when the photo is taken from the back of the audience.

We know what to expect when we see a picture of a massive crowd of people enjoying some live music, but what if we saw a picture that looked like that, but was actually very different?

That's the trick being played on people online, as an optical illusion has gone viral which looks at first glance to have been taken straight from the headline set at Coachella or Glastonbury.

When you look at the snap below, can you see the people standing in the crowd? What about the bright lights shining from the stage?

Can you see what the photo actually shows? (Reddit)

Well, it turns out that you're not actually looking at a concert at all - it's just a cotton picker working through a field at night.

In reality, the crowd of people is the field of natural fibre, and the lights and the stage is actually the huge harvester that was simply working the nightshift to pick the field.

Your mind managed to trick you into seeing something entirely different due to how the visual areas of the brain receive and process information.

Your perception was distorted because when your brain and eyes try to communicate, things don't quite connect straight away and the interpretation of the image becomes confused for something else.

The bizarre illusion - which was posted on Reddit back in 2019 and has resurfaced recently - has completely baffled people online, with many saying they could still see the image of the concert even after being told what was really in the picture.

One person said: "That's some fluffy crows! I had to do a double-take on that one."

"That took me a while", another stated, "I still see the tiny people though!"

While a third wrote: "I honestly thought it was a concert at first glance ... and that cotton picker now looks menacing to me as now I know."

And a fourth posted: "What gets me, is that, even when you've realised what it is, it still looks like a crowd at a concert!"
