Oprah Winfrey revisits famous 2004 car giveaway

Nov. 19--It was the scream heard 'round Chicago in 2004.

"You get a car! You get a car! ... Everybody gets a car!"

Oprah Winfrey revisited her surprise giveaway of 276 Pontiac G6s on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2004 with "Entertainment Tonight" in a story that ran online Wednesday.

In the 19th season premiere of her talk show, Winfrey brought 11 members of her Chicago studio audience to the stage and gave them a new car, worth about $28,000. Then she told the audience that she had one more car to give out. Her staff distributed boxes to each audience member and Winfrey instructed them to open the boxes at the same time. Squeals ensued as Winfrey shouted that everybody is getting a car.

"I was saying that because people were screaming so loudly they didn't know what was going on," Winfrey told "ET." "Prior to that moment, I had said, 'Open up your boxes. One person has a key.' So when I looked at the faces of the audience, they go, 'But I have a key... but she has a key,' so that's why I said, 'You get a car! You get a car!' to try to clarify, because they all looked so confused. Everybody gets a car!"

Winfrey's show wrapped up its 25-year run with a star-studded finale taped at the United Center in 2011.
