Opportunity to set up business in listed building on tidal island

Fancy living the rural dream on a magical, wildlife rich island retreat?

A unique business opportunity has arisen on Lindisfarne, off the north Northumberland coast, for someone looking for a new life on what is one of the UK’s few tidal islands.

The Crossman Estate is hunting for the right person to breathe new life into the Grade II listed Cambridge House, which stands at the heart of Holy Island.

The six-bedroom Georgian property and adjoining cottage is being offered with a 10-year lease to the right tenant willing to provide an additional service on the remote island, which is cut off twice a day by the tide.

Business ideas could include a deluxe bed and breakfast, yoga retreat, pottery, or cookery school.

But whoever is lucky enough to be handed the keys to this stunning stone-built property, they will need to show an entrepreneurial spirit and consideration for what is a tight-knit island community.

Andrew Ayre, trustee to the Crossman Estate, said: “The development of Cambridge House must be a true meeting of minds. We are seeking a creative tenant who can help us to realise the property’s true potential and return it to its former glory.

“Any interested party must have their own vision and be prepared to develop this into something original and financially viable for both parties, whilst we will provide the financial investment in relation to its refurbishment.

“This is a joint commercial venture and one which we hope will make the very best of this beautiful property and setting. In return a long-term lease is offered.”

Cambridge House was until last year used as a religious retreat. It was originally built as a farmhouse, and during the 1950s and 1960s was run as a guest house.

Open days will be held at the property on March 28 and March 31 between 11am-2pm. Anyone interested in viewing the property should contact Barbara Huddart on 01668 283044 for further information, details about the property, and to receive an initial pre-qualification questionnaire.

This will be followed by an invitation to successful prospective applicants to the open day.
