Opportunity to own a piece of Harry Potter history as Edinburgh cafe goes up for sale

An Edinburgh café where Harry Potter author JK Rowling wrote a substantial part of her first novel in the wizarding series has officially gone up for sale.

Spoon Edinburgh on Nicolson Street is now available to buy following their recent closure during lockdown amid ongoing hospitality restrictions.

Listed as a 'Thriving And Historic Old Town Cafe/Bistro', the property has been described by property agents as "a rare opportunity to play host to one of JK Rowling's former haunts where the world of Harry Potter emerged."

The café was identified by Rowling in a BBC documentary as a place where she wrote 'huge parts' of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and there is a small plaque beneath a window where she once sat in the cafe.

Spoon said on Facebook earlier this year: “As with most businesses this year has been utterly crap for us. Spoon has existed as an independent cafe trading for over ten years in the heart of the city.

“We have tried as hard as we can to keep going. We have persevered against a significant loss of business as well as having received no furlough of rent reductions.

“With the new restrictions announced we have been put in a helpless position. It breaks our hearts to say goodbye."

The business is currently up for sale for offers of £55,000 with furniture and fixtures included. The listing can be viewed here.
