AHMEDABAD: Former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel launched a veiled attack on the government on Sunday in connection with a family freezing to death on the Canada-US border.
Speaking at the inauguration of an e-library at Sardar Dham, the senior BJP leader referred to the deceased family, a group of Patels from Kalol taluka. He said the lack of opportunities here forces people to go overseas in search of a better life.
“Four people froze to death on the Canada-US border while they were going to the US,” the former deputy CM said. “Do you know why this incident happened? It is because their future does not become bright here.” Patel added: “Despite putting in a lot of hard work and studying a lot, (people) are not able to get a good position.” He went on to say: “This is why people have to undertake such a difficult struggle.”
It is suspected that the family which froze to death was from Dingucha village of Gandhinagar district. The family had left for Canada about ten days ago.
