Opponents of proposed Ken-Dee power line launch poster campaign to gather public support

Opponents of an overhead power line planned for the Ken-Dee glen have launched a poster campaign to gather public support.

Protest group Galloway Without Pylons (GWP) is leading the publicity drive.

Spokesperson, Laurieston man Paul Swift said: “The posters have been designed to appeal to anyone living in Galloway so they can be sited anywhere in Dumfries and Galloway.

“Gatehouse of Fleet, Borgue, Castle Douglas and Laurieston have all been covered.

“A leaflet for homes is being designed and will be available mid-January.”

SP Energy Networks Kendoon has lodged a planning application for its Tongland Reinforcement (KTR) project with the Scottish Government.

The utility says bigger pylons are needed to replace ageing infrastructure east of Loch Ken.

GWP points to SPEN’s own survey suggesting undergrounding the cables is possible, although more expensive.

If built, the 32-kilometre line of electricity towers would run from Glenlee power station to Tongland.

The planned route cuts through scenic areas of Galloway Forest Park.
