'Oppenheimer' and 'Maestro' are among the Oscar nominees for sound, competing against films like 'The Zone of Interest,' 'The Creator,' and 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1.' In 2021, the Academy merged the Oscars for sound editing and sound mixing into a single award for best sound.

Notable winners at the CAS Awards included 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' for animated feature, '32 Sounds' for feature documentary, 'The Bear' for half-hour series, and 'The Last of Us' for one-hour series.

The event also saw Jon Favreau presenting the CAS Filmmaker Award to J.J. Abrams, with industry stalwart Andy Nelson receiving recognition. Joe Earle, known for his work on shows like 'American Crime Story' and 'Glee,' was honored with the Career Achievement Award, emphasizing the importance of mentorship in the sound community.

The CAS Awards recognized outstanding achievements in sound mixing across various categories, including motion pictures, animated features, documentaries, and television series. Notable winners in the motion pictures category included 'Barbie,' 'Ferrari,' 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' 'Maestro,' and 'Oppenheimer.'

In the television series category, standout winners included 'Succession,' 'Ted Lasso,' 'The Crown,' 'The Last Of Us,' 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,' 'Barry,' 'Only Murders in the Building,' 'The Bear,' 'The Mandalorian,' and 'What We Do in the Shadows.'

Additionally, the CAS Awards recognized excellence in television non-fiction, variety, and music programs, with winners like '100 Foot Wave,' 'Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming With Dave Letterman,' 'Formula 1: Drive to Survive,' 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,' and 'Welcome to Wrexham.'

The event also highlighted the Student Recognition Award finalists, showcasing emerging talent from institutions like the Savannah College of Art and Design, University of Southern California, and Georgia State University.
