OPINION - The 12 most staggering revelations from Virginia Giuffre's book, Nobody's Girl

Virginia Giuffre’s book, Nobody’s Girl, gives a harrowing account of her two-year ordeal as a sexual victim of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and describes how she was also trafficked to their associates. She also describes abuse in childhood. These are some of the main revelations:

1. Jeffrey Epstein subjected her to sadomasochistic sex during her two year association with him which caused her "so much pain that I prayed I would black out".

There were times when she feared that she would die. "In my years with them [Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell], they lent me out to scores of wealthy, powerful people," she writes. "I was habitually used and humiliated - and in some instances, choked, beaten, and bloodied. I believed that I might die a sex slave." Epstein had begun to use “whips and restraints and other instruments of torture” during her time with him.

Epstein also trafficked her to a politician she describes as “a former minister” who “repeatedly choked me until I lost consciousness and took pleasure in seeing me fear for my life”.

2. Epstein told Giuffre that he wanted her to bear a child for him and Maxwell.

He told her: “Jenna, I want you to have our baby”....Like a modern day handmaid, I would have to sign over to Epstein and Maxwell all legal rights to the child....It was a bridge too far.”

She observed that Epstein “fantasised about improving the human race by fathering children who carried his “superior” genes.” He spoke of using his Zorro ranch as “a literal breeding ground to propagate babies”.

3. Giuffre said that Jeffrey Epstein would tell her to tuck him in at night in his pink satin sheets.

She would pull the covers up and she was instructed to stay with him until he fell asleep. Epstein and Maxwell said to her repeatedly, 'You would make a great mother,'.

4. Epstein and Maxwell used Giuffre to recruit other girls to Epstein’s circle.

“Preferably white with girl-next-door looks that made them look between 12 and 17 years old....his key requirement was vulnerability.” She would say that she worked for a billionaire with a taste for beautiful young girls who had contacts and could help them. “I stooped so low that I even brought friends of mine for him to abuse”.

5. She described how Ghislaine Maxwell played “den mother”

She describes how Maxwell (“a molester with posh manners and an aristocratic pedigree or G-Max, as she called herself”) played “den mother to Epstein’s dysfunctional family of underage girls... Maxwell liked to call the girls who regularly serviced Epstein her “children”.’ But she says the worst abuse Epstein and Maxwell inflicted on her was psychological more than physical. “From the start I was groomed to be complicit in my own destruction”.

6. Epstein used threats at the start of their association to coerce her into remaining with him.

He told her “I know where your brother goes to school... And I own the Palm Beach police department.”

7. She speculates that one reason Epstein supplied girls to powerful men was that “he wanted to record men in compromising positions in order to blackmail them later”.

His homes were fitted with video cameras in every room and kept a huge library of videotapes he had recorded in his houses; he showed Giuffre the room where he monitored the recordings. One woman recalled him saying, “It’s good to have things on people”.

8. Prince Andrew’s out of court agreement with Virginia was motivated in part by his anxiety not to distract from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

"I agreed to a one-year gag order, which seemed important to the prince because it ensured his mother's Platinum Jubilee would not be tarnished any more than it already had been," she writes.

9. Virginia documents three occasions when she had sex with Prince Andrew.

Prince Andrew vehemently denies that these encounters took place.

On the first occasion, in London, Epstein invited the Duke to guess her age. “The Duke of York, who was then 41, guessed correctly: 17. “My daughters are just a little younger than you,” he told me, explaining his accuracy.” They went to Tramps and “On the way back, Maxwell told me, “When we get home, you are to do for him what you do for Jeffrey.” Prince Andrew, she recalled, “was friendly enough, but still entitled – as if he believed having sex with me was his birthright...In my memory it seemed that the whole thing lasted less than half an hour.” It seems he was satisfied. “The next morning, Maxwell told me: “You did well. The prince had fun.” Epstein would give me $15,000 for servicing the man the tabloids called “Randy Andy”.

On the second occasion, in New York, Ghislaine Maxwell brought along another girl, Johanna Sjoberg.

(She later testified in Virginia’s case against Maxwell. After Virginia’s suicide, Johanna spoke out about the toll the abuse had exacted on the victims. “Suicide, drugs and overdose, prostitution, prison," Johanna said “It could have been any of us”, that is, Epstein’s victims. "I can, with full certainty, say that it is only by the Grace of God I've found a different path." )

The third occasion, she alleged, took place on the 72-acre island Epstein owned in the US Virgin Islands. “The private sanctuary, right next to Saint Thomas island, was called Little Saint James, but Epstein liked to call it “Little Saint Jeff’s”. I also know that it was not just the two of us this time; it was an orgy. “I was around 18,” I said in a sworn declaration in 2015. “Epstein, Andy, and approximately eight other young girls and I had sex together. The other girls all appeared to be under the age of 18 and didn’t really speak English.”

10. Virginia wrote that she had been sexually molested by her father from the age of seven.

Her father, Sky Roberts Snr, vigorously denies the charge. She says that “as I child I suffered nearly every kind of abuse: incest, parental neglect, molestation, rape.” She notes that Epstein was good at spotting “girls whose wounds made them vulnerable...several of us had been molested or raped as children.”

11. She describes how Jean-Luc Brunel, the Frenchman who ran the modelling agency MC2, “repeatedly raped me”.

Brunel, according to Epstein, supplied him with more than a thousand girls. They allegedly included three 12 year old French girls, supplied for his birthday. Brunel, like Jeffrey Epstein, committed suicide while in prison.

12. She says she was threatened when she went public with her abuse by Epstein: "Seeking to silence me, my powerful enemies have threatened to bankrupt me and even to have me killed”.

At the end of the book she says that “I have not named all the men I was trafficked to”. She explains that she fears some of the men; others have threatened her with litigation. Of one she says, “this man is very wealthy and very powerful”. ... I do not make this decision to hold back lightly.”
