The operator of the Central Australian mine at the centre of NT's COVID-19 outbreak has apologised for the conditions workers have had to experience while in isolation at the mine.

ABC Radio Darwin has received numerous calls, texts and emails regarding isolation conditions at Newmont Australia's Tanami mine site.

About 700 workers are in isolation at the mine and it's expected most will be there until at least July 10.

Some of the complaints involved the lack of food being delivered and late delivery of food, limited internet services and not being able to exercise.

ABC Radio Darwin was also told some of the rooms had blacked-out windows for night-shift workers and not all rooms had televisions.

Newmont Australia regional senior vice president Alex Bates admitted there had been problems.

"Under this extreme scenario we are being tested," he said.

"We have had communication issues due to a lack of 4-G."

Mr Bates said due to the outbreak the kitchen had to be fully sterilised, which caused the delays in food being delivered to workers.

"Yes we absolutely did not meet our obligations to our team members yesterday [Tuesday]," he said.

He also said communication between the company and workers in isolation and with their families would be improved, and a dedicated hotline would be established for any people with concerns.

Mr Bates also said the company had ordered 750 kettles, which were expected to arrive today, and extra televisions had been ordered.

Mr Bates also said the company was working with NT Health to ensure that the workers in isolation would be able to leave their rooms for exercise and to do their laundry.

He also said internet services were now working.
