Operation Transformation star says it's 'nice' to be able to focus on show instead of criticism

Kathryn Thomas said yesterday it was “nice” to be able to focus on Operation Transformation – and not the criticism around it.

The RTE One series came under fire last year when BodyWhys slammed it for triggering eating disorders. But this year it aired without any criticism.

Host Kathryn said: “We just did what we always do and went out and got people who were willing to share stories and their lives and in fairness, I think changes to the show in the last number of years brought it in a different direction.

"It was nice to have nothing anything else to concentrate or worry about other than the show. It meant the whole show was about them.” Speaking on Virgin Media’s Ireland AM earlier this year, the Carlow woman and mum of two said: “What we just say every year is that we have to keep doing what we do and the show speaks for itself.

“I think a lot of criticisms that come at the show comes from a time when the show was very weight-centric. The show that I started on 12 years ago is a very different show that’s on air now.

“I think the criticism comes from, maybe, people who have not seen the show in recent years.

“We have lots of different indicators of health, yes, weight is one of them.

“Maintaining a healthy weight is a very important part of that as is BMI, as is having your cholesterol checked, as is getting your sleep. We have 14 different health indicators that every we check and we monitor.”
