Operation Fanacht: Drugs found in car on N7 after driver stopped for no insurance or licence

Gardai have been continuing checkpoints across Dublin this weekend as part of their efforts to monitor compliance with the Level 5 restrictions across Ireland.

But it seems that some lawbreakers are being caught for other crimes.

One driver, who had no insurance or driver's licence was found to be carrying €5k worth of cocaine and €13.5k worth of other controlled drugs in the car.

The discovery happened on the N7 and follows a number of seizures around the city.

Gardai said: "Gardaí stopped a driver at an #OperationFanacht checkpoint on the N7 for having no insurance or driver's licence.

"Upon further investigation of the vehicle the Gardaí discovered €5,000 of cocaine and a further €13,500 worth of controlled drugs."

On Wednesday €30,000 worth of cannabis was found inside crisp packets and seized as part of an intelligence-led Garda raid in North Dublin.

A woman was also arrested after the clever hiding spot was not enough to prevent the seizure.

Gardai and Revenue officials raided a house in Artane where the unique discovery was made.
