Operation Arbacia: Tenth person charged in investigation against the New IRA

A tenth person has been charged in an ongoing investigation against the New IRA.

This is part of Operation Arbacia, a police crackdown on the dissident republican group.

PSNI Crime Operations Assistant Chief Constable Barbara Gray tonight said: “A 62 year-old man from Scotland has been charged with an offence of preparatory acts of terrorism.

“He is due to appear at Laganside Court on Tuesday 25 August.”

The New IRA is believed to be responsible for the shooting death of journalist Lyra McKee while she observed a riot in Derry in April 2019.

It is currently believed to be the largest of the dissident republican groups in Northern Ireland.
