Opera legend Andrea Bocelli grieves the loss of beloved dog just months after mum dies

Opera icon Andrea Bocelli mourned the loss of his beloved dog in a sweet Instagram post, after his mum's passing was announced just months ago.

The death of the 63-year-old's mum Edi was announced in May, and tenor has now suffered another loss- his "affectionate" dog Chopin.

Taking to Instagram to share the news with his 1.8 million followers, the Italian musician posted a picture of himself on the beach, smiling with his golden pooch.

The Instagram post read: "After eleven years of silent joy, you lazily left this world without complaint on a hot summer day.

"A lover of peace and quiet (which so rarely reigned in the Bocelli house), you were a wise, affectionate, placid friend to all of us, ready to spread your serenity and the peace you knew how to instil.

"You always loved music, Chopin. In keeping with the name you valiantly bore, you showed a particular fondness for the piano.

"Indeed, you regularly elected to lie down and listen (and sleep) exactly between the pedal and the foot, actually taking part in the music.

"This is for you: you were and will remain a part of us, a greeting, a smile, a thought full of gratitude and sweet memories."

The post signed off: "Your family".

Earlier this year, the superstar's team announced the death of his mum, Edi, sharing a photo of her in a vineyard, and beaming at the camera.

On Instagram, his team wrote: "It is with great sorrow that our staff announces the passing of Mrs. Edi Aringhieri Bocelli, Andrea’s mother. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones and all of us.

"She left her earthly home after a long, extraordinary life to join her beloved husband, Sandro, in Heaven.

"All our hearts are with Andrea and Veronica, Alberto and Cinzia, and the entire Bocelli family at this time."

The singer is currently on a huge world tour, which will visit the UK in late September.

Andrea will perform in major cities Glasgow, Birmingham and Sheffield, finishing at London's O2.

The musician's son Matteo and daughter Virginia have joined him on stage during the tour.

In 2018, Andrea sung at Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brookshank at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, in front of 850 guests.

Barbara Streisand, Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado, Celine Dion and Tony Bennett have all joined Bocelli on stage.

Celine Dion famously that "if God would have a singing voice, he must sound a lot like Andrea Bocelli".

Andrea was born in La Sterza in the Tuscany region of Italy.

While Andrea was born with sight problems and diagnosed with congenital glaucoma at a young age, he was only partially sighted.

Congenital glaucoma, also known as primary juvenile glaucoma, is caused by incorrect development of the eye's drainage system before birth - and is usually diagnosed in babies or young children.

But at 12 years old, Andrea lost his sight completely in an accident during a football game, suffering a brain haemorrhage.
