Opening night MSU vs. Kentucky matchup will officially feature top-2 teams in NCAA

The Champions Classic, which takes place November 5th in Madison Square Garden, always features four of the top teams in the NCAA and that was just made official when Michigan State, Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke took the top four spots in the first AP Poll of the 2019-20 Men’s Basketball season.

This will be the first time MSU will be entering the season ever being ranked as the AP #1 team in the country. Of course, #1 Michigan State and #2 Kentucky will be the premier matchup of the evening and will also be the second time MSU has faced Kentucky in a 1 vs. 2 matchup in the 2013 Champions Classic. The Spartans won the last meeting in such a scenario 78-74 behind the strong play of Keith Appling and Gary Harris who scored 22 and 20 respectively.

This will be the third 1 vs. 2 matchup for Michigan State in the last seven years. Michigan State tips off against Kentucky at 9:30pm ET on November 5th after the Duke vs. Kansas matchup.
