Opening Ireland phases: What restrictions are lifted on June 29? Cafes, creches and playgrounds

As Ireland continues to work through reopening the country, June 29 will mark yet another phase in the government's road map to recovery from Covid-19.

The next phase will be the start significant changes to Irish society as more retailers and will open their doors while a new set of workers will be deemed essential.

It's expected from June 29 parts of Ireland's economy can get back up and running with the right precautions being put in place.

The restrictions being eased are as follows:

  • allow small social gatherings
  • opening of crèches, childminders and pre-schools for children of essential workers in phased manner
  • return to work for those with low levels of interaction
  • open non-essential retail outlets with street level entrance and exit
  • open playgrounds
  • Maintain restriction to within 20km of your home - Continue to avoid unnecessary journeys
  • Commence a phased approach to visiting at hospital / residential healthcare centre / other residential settings / prisons etc., bearing in mind the particular features of types of settings and each individual centre, also considering personal protective equipment availability and other protection.

  • Organisations where employees have low levels of daily interaction with people and where social distancing can be maintained.

  • Continue to maintain remote working for all workers / businesses that can do so.

  • Permit “behind closed doors” sporting activities events where arrangements are in place to enable participants to maintain social distancing

  • Open cafés and restaurants providing onpremises food & beverages where they can comply with social distancing measures and strict cleaning in operation

The governement also says it will consider consider implementing travel restrictions on numbers of travelling to and in major urban centres on weekdays and weekend days

Restrictions are to be implemented on numbers of private cars.
