Opening date revealed for Gotham Town's replacement Gunner Tavern

There was a big outpouring of sadness earlier this year when it was revealed that Gotham Town had closed without any warning but now a new era is about to begin in its famous Newcastle premises.

Gotham was one of those places that wrote itself into Geordie folklore as a bar that many people visited at least once - even if it was just to try one of its infamous trebles or brave its sticky floor!

So there was genuine shock in March when the Neville Street bar closed its doors suddenly with one Chronicle reader reacting ""Another legendary bar gone.

"Drew me in like a moth to light every time."

However, Gotham's home - Gunner House - has now had a drastic refurbishment and will re-open as the appropriately named Gunner Tavern.

Operator Crafted Projects are ringing the changes with a craft beer and hearty food the new direction for the bar.

The firm responsible for fellow Newcastle city centre haunts Pleased to Meet You, Hop & Cleaver, Redhouse and Lady Greys, they have plenty of successful venues under their belt and revealed on Monday that Gunner Tavern will open officially on Thursday, July 18.

A Facebook teaser revealed "Hello Newcastle,

"We’re pleased to announce the Gunner Tavern will officially open on Thursday 18th July!

"We’re located opposite Central station in the iconic Gunner House building, named after the famous Gunner Tower that once stood as part of the town’s historic defences.

"Expect a modern take on the tavern with great beers, killer cocktails, spit-roasted meats, vegetarian dishes, great music and so much more.
