Opening date for new indoor market confirmed

A new indoor market celebrating a Nottinghamshire town's independent traders will open its doors for the first time this weekend.

The Moor Market in Low Moor Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, has been set up in three former retail units and will include seven market stalls and a cafe.

It opens on Saturday, October 16, and forms part of a multi-million pound investment in the town.

Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, said “Ashfield is known for its independent traders, and Moor Market will bring a whole new shopping experience to Kirkby with a range of independent artisan traders.

"Our aim for the new market is to attract artisan food, creative and craft traders to sit alongside the Moor Café offering fresh barista made coffee.

“Funded through the Accelerated Towns Fund, this is the first of many projects that we are delivering as part of our town centre regeneration plans.

"Kirkby has some fantastic independent traders and the introduction of the new indoor market will provide shoppers with a wider range of high quality products.

“Moor Market provides an great opportunity for individuals who are looking for retail space in which to launch their new business, or established traders that are seeking to expand in a friendly, distinctive space.

"If you have a business that you think could be part of the new indoor market, do get in touch.”

The Moor Market opening is hoped to be the first in a series of planned projects via the Government's Towns Fund and Future High Streets Fund that promises investment of almost £70m.

Councillor Matthew Relf, cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: "After all the months of work that has gone into creating Moor Market it will be fantastic to see residents and visitors going through the doors for the first time.

“This is the first of many projects to be delivered as part of the £62.6m Town Fund investment that Ashfield District Council secured from the government. Moor Market will bring a new diverse offer and more choice to shoppers in Kirkby and marks the start of the town centre regeneration.”

Family entertainment will be provided on opening day including free face painting and clown workshops.
