Now parents and teens can link accounts to automatically get stronger safeguards for teens. Parents also gain tools to adjust features & set limits that work for their family.

According to the company, the controls are designed in a way that gives families more ways to manage how ChatGPT is used at home. Plus, once the accounts are connected, parents can adjust features like reducing sensitive content, which safeguards their account against exposure to graphic material or Viral challenges. It also allows parents to decide whether ChatGPT remembers past conversations for personalized responses or not. Parents can control whether their conversations are used to improve OpenAI models or not.

Apart from that, there is something called quiet hours as well, which allows parents to set specific times when ChatGPT is off-limits. Plus, there is also an option to turn the voice mode off on ChatGPT and block image generation or editing.
However, there is one big limitation that parents will not be able to access full conversations of their teens. According to the company, the only exception is when the system signals a potentially serious safety risk. In those situations, parents might get access to the minimum information needed to support their child’s safety.
Setting up parental controls requires an invitation from either the parent or teen, which must be accepted by the other party. Parents will also be notified if their teen decides to disconnect their account.
OpenAI noted it worked with experts, advocacy groups, and policymakers to design the controls and said it plans to expand the features over time. The company has also launched a new resource page to help parents understand how ChatGPT can be used responsibly at home.
