Open Weather Forecast 2025: Early Portrush Outlook

A picture of The Open showing the weather at Royal Portrush prior to the 153rd Championship.

We want a stiff breeze. Maybe a bit of rain - not too much but just enough to make the conditions challenging enough for the world's best players.

And we want plenty of sun, too. Basically a bit of everything makes for a perfect Open week - enjoyable for the players, the fans at home and those fortunate enough to be at Royal Portrush this week.

But how's the weather looking for the 153rd Open right now? Here's a look at the current weather forecast for the week...

Open Weather Forecast: Day-By-Day Outlook

Mixed is how we'd describe this week's weather forecast for the 153rd Open, although it's slightly disappointing to see that the wind isn't expected to be much beyond light - a bit of a stronger breeze would have been preferable to challenge the players.

However, the weather conditions could yet change. Here's how things are looking at the start of the week.

  • Wednesday: Low cloud clearing to leave a mostly sunny morning. Dry and largely sunny throughout the rest of the day with sunshine turning hazier later
  • Thursday: Cloudy through the morning but often dry. Some short-lived outbreaks of rain; perhaps briefly heavy at times are possible. Intermittently dry through the afternoon and evening but there is a chance of further rain and heavy showers or passing thunderstorms developing. Possibly becoming dry by late evening. Rainfall: 3-10 mm (10% 15-20 mm). Winds: SE 4-8 gust 7-12 mph, increasing SE or S 8-13 gust 13-20 mph by midday. Easing to S 5-10 mph by midnight. High: 22°C (72°F)
  • Friday: A drier and brighter day likely. Some showers may develop at times, mainly through the afternoon, which could be heavy and with a small chance of thunder. Rainfall: 0-3 mm (10% 5 mm). Winds: S or SW 7-11 gust 12-18 mph, perhaps becoming N or NW 5-8 gust 8-12 mph in the evening. High: 21°C (70°F)

As for the rest of the Championship, the weather remains changeable, with a mix of showers and longer periods of rain a strong possibility, particularly on Sunday.

As for the wind, it's predicted to be mainly light over the weekend and likely varying in direction.
