British-Ghanaian writer and photographer Caleb Azumah Nelson speaks to Eve Jackson about his beautifully told debut novel "Open Water". It tells the story of two young Black British artists falling in love in south London. It's an exploration of desire, love, trauma, race and looks at what it means to be identified by the world as a Black person, to be seen only as a Black body.
The book is also a love letter to Black culture and achievement, with odes to British-Ghanaian painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, London rapper Dizzy Rascal, the cellist and singer Kelsey Lu and Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins.
