Open thread: what's the first song you remember hearing?

Here's your weekly preview of what's coming up on guardian.co.uk/music.

Live music

This week we'll be featuring live reviews of Paul Simon, Dylan le Blanc, Madonna, the Pharcyde and Ministry among others. There'll be a look ahead to this weekend's BT River of Song, and video highlights from Traction festival, including Baloji and Sébastien Tellier. You can see all the gigs our reviewers will be attending by keeping an eye on our Songkick page, and if you'd like to find, or tell us about, any forthcoming gigs in your area, take a look at our live music map.

In session

Later in the week you'll be able to watch Baaba Maal and Tune-Yard's performances at A Room for London, plus an exclusive performance in the Guardian studios from Two Door Cinema Club.

People

Frank Ocean has come under intense media scrutiny in the last couple of weeks, after a much-discussed statement about his sexuality was followed up with an album that's been praised to the hills. He'll be giving his only interview to the Guide this Saturday. Elsewhere, Stuart Jeffries will be talking to Terry Jones about The Owl and the Pussycat, his new opera set on a barge, Laura Barton interviews Edward Sharpe, and we'll have interviews with Damian Marley and Kate Nash.

Regulars

Each Wednesday we feature a playlist from a reader – take a look at the series to discover some new music and see if you'd be interested in contributing. Every Monday and Thursday we invite independent music bloggers to tell us about what they do in Blog jam, and towards the end of the week we'll be unveiling the latest topic for the venerable institution that is Readers Recommend.

Talking point

This week's talking point comes as a suggestion from John Burke, who joined guardian.co.uk/music on work experience. We'd like to know what is the first song (or piece of music) that you remember hearing? What do you think of when you hear it now? And do you think it's shaped your subsequent music tastes at all? Let us know in the thread below.
