'Open the message' - Arne Slot breaks silence over Leeds United manager links

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has said that he will "open the message" from Leeds United should they contact him about replacing Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.

The Eredivisie coach has been heavily linked to make the move to the Premier League to replace Marsch. The American was sacked following a winless run that saw Leeds without victory in the top-flight since November.

Former under-23s and first-team coach Carlos Corberan was the early favourite, before West Bromwich Albion confirmed that their current head coach had signed a new long-term deal at the club.

Rayo Vallecano's Andoni Iraola has also reportedly held discussions with Leeds, but his La Liga side are rumoured to be 'blocking' any potential move. Slot has therefore quickly risen up the ranks and currently sits as the odds-on favourite to become the new Whites head coach.

The 44-year-old has heavily impressed during his time with Feyenoord, as his side sit top of the Eredivisie having lost just one game all season. His fast and aggressive style of play has been likened to that of Marcelo Bielsa and Slot could well now follow in the Argentine's footsteps to Elland Road.

The Dutch coach was asked on Wednesday evening about his links with Leeds United by ESPN and despite Slot claiming he had not heard anything himself, he did not rule out a move to Leeds should the position be offered to him.

"I have not heard anything," he said. "I have read it [the rumours], I follow Voetbal Primeur and Voetbal International [Dutch outlets] but I haven’t seen anything on my phone yet.

“What will I do when a message comes in from Leeds? Open the message.”
